I live on .75 acres but when I moved to this location back in 1996 I had no trees to hang wire and the subdivision has many HOA restrictions which I won’t go in detail on. But since then I have planted several tree’s which are now 35 to 45 feet tall and I also use one of my neighbors tree at about 55 foot level. So support wise things have grown a bit better.

In my early days at his location I ran a Radio Works Carolina Windom for 75 meters as a all band antenna. I had a pushup pole of about 35 feet and had it in a inverted V configuration. Expensive antenna that worked ok, I used that until the balun gave out.

I have had homebrew G5RV up as well 51 feet per side feeding with 450 ladder line. Pretty much same support with pushup pole.

Inverted L I have had great success with, 3/8 wave for 160 meters only about 35 feet vertical the rest horizontal. I put this antenna up in a snow storm back in 2007 for the World WIde 160 Meter DX contest and finished 1st place in Ohio and 2nd place in the US using low power. Be honest I am not sure why I took this antenna down.

Loop antenna’s, mainly I have had a 75 meter horizontal loop up about 275 feet of wire in a triangle arrangement and fed with 450 ladderline Jelly and it always works well for me on all bands. I did put up about 490 feet in a larger traingle but was much harder to keep up and my auto MFJ 998 tuner didn’t always like that length of wire.

<img class="size-medium wp-image-28 aligncenter" title=”deltaloop1″ src=”http://www.kq8rp.us/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/deltaloop1-300×225.jpg” alt=”deltaloop1″ width=”300″ height=”225″ />

Just this month I took my 75 meter horizontal loop down and put up in a delta loop configuration as a triangle down fed at bottom with 450 ladder line. One top corner at 55 feet the other 40 feet. I have not really had time to play much with it but on 60 meters and 40 meters so far seems to be working well in comparison to my 75 meter vertical.

I will post more reports on this antenna going forward.

Most of my wire antenna’s I make my self and feed with ladder line to a 4:1 balun. Then a short run of RG 213 to the shack.
