Amateur Radio Still Fun After 26 Years

KQ8RP – Welcome to KQ8RP Blog

Welcome to KQ8RP Blog

We have been hamming it up since 1983 and this is still one of the hobbies we still really enjoy. We have met alot of nice people from around the world and still talk with many of them today.

I am a member of ARRL and like to operate HF most often. I enjoy casual contesting, building wire antennas as well as vertical antennas.

Favorite bands are 60 meters and 160 meters.

    Hey Scotty,

Nice shack! I didn’t happen to see a Hallicrafters SX-28 in the shack, though … wow, what a receiver it was! I can’t tell you how tempted I have been over the years to buy one off eBay; shipping the thing worries me, and is expensive anyway.

I’m going to have to do a video tour of my shack too, its a nice one you have there. The Flex looks like a great setup. BTW, I ran into Eddie Mattingly at the E’town hamfest this past Saturday (you remember that class and “buy – trade – sell -steal” don’t you?? LOL), hadn’t see him in many years. I reminded him of the class we took, and I didn’t realize it, but some of the longtime Lincoln Trail Club regulars were in that same class; several were at the hamfest.

My main rig now is the FT-2000 with the DMU and external speaker. The rig is great, but for casual listening, I enjoy using one of my older rigs, a Uniden-built Tempo 2020 or my Halicrafters SR-150. I have a couple of older receivers but not setup in the shack right now. I still have that old Hammarlund RGB-2 Navy receiver, which was basically a mil-spec HQ-120X.

Give my best to the family, and hope you guys had a great Easter. Catch you on the air sometime, I still find Larry and Danny on 75 around 3710. I have been monitoring the digital SSTV on 3713, that’s fun to do if you haven’t tried it.

    Take care and 73,

Hey Jimmy, Good to hear from you. That old SX-28 was retired once my back got tired of moving it around. Join us on 3710 sometime at 9pm when you can. 73′s Scott

Hello Scott…Nice view of the shack. I was hoping to see some of your antennas, Man the one you were on a few minutes ago on 4o was great.
Take care and have fun. Will be looking for you again soon. There are several Flex SDR Rigs on the air here in Richmond, VA.

Thanks for QRP QSO on 24920.0, Best signal -15db.

Work 30W dipole inverted V at 9 meters up, dipole resonant on 14 and 18 mhz adjust with homemade transmatch.

Yes Thanks for the contact, good to see 12 meters with some activity today. I have a 3/8 wave inverted L with a tuner at the base. Seems to play very well on all bands.. 73 Scott

A guess on the noise is electronic meter reading on gas or water usage with in a two block area but the noise should go away or electronic jamming device, or speed checking device.
